Since its launch in 2018, BBC Radio Cymru 2 has aimed to ensure a varied choice across the airwaves by providing shows in Welsh for families who seek out an alternative listening experience to Radio Cymru.
At the heart of the station’s programming is music, and the extension of the current hours at the beginning of next month will mean that listeners of the radio station - which is available on DAB and BBC Sounds - will be able to enjoy even more entertainment and popular music through the medium of Welsh throughout the day.
Rhydian Bowen Phillips, who will present Mondays to Thursdays between 7am and 10am, says: "I can't wait to extend the breakfast show with an extra hour full of the best tunes to start your day. Even more nostalgia and even more new music. The best music in the morning - we don't just say it, we do it!"
Lisa Gwilym, who will be broadcasting Monday to Thursday between 10am and 2pm, says: "There will be tunes all day on Radio Cymru 2 - and I can't wait! I'll have even more music to make your day better and I'm really looking forward to playing the tracks that put a smile on your faces. And if that's not enough, there will also be competitions with amazing prizes - so tune in for the tunes!”
Dafydd Meredydd, BBC Wales’ Head of Welsh Language Services said: "This is great news for the listeners who enjoy music and I’m very pleased that we can offer Radio Cymru 2 for more hours. As well as some of Wales' most exciting DJs, there will be great playlists chosen by Welsh stars such as Josh Navidi and Tara Bandito. It's a golden opportunity to reach a new audience through the medium of Welsh."
