Cade York's brutal Browns ending made worse by Instagram post

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Cade York’s Instagram celebration was premature.

The Browns kicker missed both of his attempts at the game-winning kick with two minutes left in Cleveland’s 18-18 final with the Eagles.

That came after York re-posted on his Instagram a celebratory shot of a kick made in the first half.

York promptly deleted the post after the game, but possibly being deleted from the Browns roster is his bigger problem now.

“Confidence is never gonna be an issue for me,” York told reporters. “I don’t think the preseason so far is a good indication of how I’ve been kicking so far.”

York made three kicks in the first half — two 43 yarders and one from 27 out — before missing wide right from 47 yards with a chance to put the Browns ahead in the preseason tilt.

However, an Eagles penalty moved York five yards closer with a chance at redemption — but that kicked sailed wide left.

York said he was “definitely disappointed” at the result, though the former LSU kicker did note he had only missed one of 40-to-45 attempts in practice thus far, according to Pro Football Talk.

Still, York has now missed a kick in all three of the Browns preseason games.

That comes after a shaky rookie season for the fourth-round pick in which he made 24-of-32 attempts.

“I think it’s preseason, so everyone is working through the preseason,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “And certainly, as you know Cade wants to make those so that we can finish as a team. So, we can go get that [win]. But he’s like any young player. He’s like any player on our roster.

“It’s preseason, so he’s got to continue to work through it… You’re constantly trying to perfect your craft. Obviously making the first three is great, and then he knows he wants to make that last one. So, I think that’s something he’ll continue to work through.”

The Browns do not have any current kicking competition for York on the roster, but potential fallback options will inevitably become available as rosters get trimmed.

The Browns have one more preseason game left — Aug. 26 against the Chiefs.

York may want to stay off social media till after that game.
